New This Week – June 26, 2020

This week we have new music from MACHINE HEAD, new discoveries in PARALYDIUM and VEGA, and a MERCYFUL FATE anniversary.

New MACHINE HEAD

MACHINE HEAD has released a 2 track single inspired after the recent civil unrest in America. The single is appropriated titled Civil Unrest. The first track, “Stop the Bleeding” also features guest vocals from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE vocalist Jesse Leach.

POWER TRIP – Live in Seattle Album

We previously listed this as our album of the week, but POWER TRIP’s surprise live album release is worth another mention. Recorded in Seattle back in 2018, the album showcases the energetic and tight live shows that POWER TRIP has become known for. While there is no new material here, it is a good distraction while we wait for a new studio album!

New Discoveries – PARALYDIUM and VEGA

If you are a DREAM THEATER fan, or a fan of the progressive metal genre as a whole, you will be interested in our first new discovery of the week. PARALYDIUM is a Swedish based group founded by guitarist John Berg. Their debut album Worlds Beyond is available now and has received a lot of early praise in the two weeks since it’s release.

English melodic/hard-rock band VEGA is our second discovery highlight this week. They may be new to us but VEGA has over a million plays on Spotify and 6 studio albums. That includes their latest album, Grit Your Teeth, released on June 12th, 2020. Strong vocal performances, modern sound production, and radio-friendly song-writing make them worthy of checking out. Fans of SIXX:A.M., DEF LEPPARD, and BON JOVI should give it a listen.

MERCYFUL FATE – In the Shadows Turns 27 this week

This is not ‘new’ but still noteworthy. MERCYFUL FATE‘s In the Shadows album turns 27 years old this week! The highly anticipated comeback album, after breaking up in 1985, doesn’t resonate as much as their classic, influential first two albums (Melissa and Don’t Break the Oath). It does, however, showcase matured song-writing and performances and is one of the most underrated metal albums of the 1990s. The first half of the album is especially strong with stand outs “Egypt”, “The Bell Witch”, and “The Old Oak”.
