Quarantine Binge-Listen: 40 Metal Albums with No Bad Songs

Don’t Break the Oath (1984) – MERCYFUL FATE

MERCYFUL FATE’s second album gave them the opportunity to control sound production. It results in a more matured, progressive, and evil sounding release. It’s also been considered the greatest ‘extreme metal’ album of all time – though I disagree on the ‘extreme’ label.

Genre: Black Metal/Speed Metal

Powerslave (1984) – IRON MAIDEN

My personal favorite IRON MAIDEN record sits at #38 on Rolling Stone’s all-time list. The album is near perfection in every sense of the word and included the 13-minute epic “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”.

Genre: Pure Heavy Metal

Master of Puppets (1986) – METALLICA

Even the most casual music fans are aware of Master of Puppets, and it represents what thrash metal can be at it’s best. At #2 on the Rolling Stone all-time list, what those casual fans might miss is that each and every song on this masterpiece is a masterpiece in and of itself.

Genre: Thrash Metal

Reign in Blood (1986) – SLAYER

The definition of the word ‘blistering’, Reign in Blood moves along quickly and solidified SLAYER’s legacy. The album ranks #6 on the all-time greatest metal albums and is easily the most intense album in Rolling Stone’s Top-30.

Genre: Thrash Metal

Abigail (1987) – KING DIAMOND

Abigail is a concept album (the entire album is a story) and kicked of KING DIAMOND’s career of making concept albums. The story alone makes the album perfect for binge-listening, but the music makes this a landmark record in metal music.

Genre: Speed Metal/Gothic Metal/Progressive Metal
