20. “Pure Evil“
It feels as though ICED EARTH’s second album “Night of the Stormrider” has been mostly overlooked in recent years considering the classic albums that followed. A concept album, that is admittedly pretty inconsistent at times, still includes standout tracks like “Pure Evil”. This is also is one of the best arranged ICED EARTH songs.
19. “Dracula“
The entire “Horror Show” album is atmospheric but “Dracula” is a standout. The track has so many layers to it and may be the heaviest love song of all time. It features one of Matt Barlow’s best vocal performances and tight musicianship all around.
18. “Stormrider“
Holy triplets! If I had to choose one song to sum up ICED EARTH’s music style, it would probably be “Stormrider”. After a gentle intro, the song transitions to some of the most evil riffs you’ll find (in a good way). The guitars on this track will make your arms tired just by listening to it.
17. “Last December“
A friend once told me he was suprised “Last December” never became the track to propel ICED EARTH to the next level. The song showcases something ICED EARTH has done very well over the years: blend heavy riffs with melody. The chorus is also one of the group’s most memorable.
16. “The Coming Curse“
“The Coming Curse” opens with a long, beautiful piano section. It’s different from the typical ICED EARTH track, but sets the tone and adds anticipation for whats next. After the piano section, the skies open up and and let loose a dynamic masterpiece in metal.
