15. “Diary“
Listen to the opening guitar riff, and any metal fan will raise their eyebrow out of intrigue. The track starts slow and reminiscent of doom metal. As the song builds through the opening verse, it evlolves into a speed metal track complete with soaring vocals and technical musicianship. It’s one of my personal favorites.
14. “Angel’s Holocaust“
The epic choir opening of “Angel’s Holocaust” caught my attention the first time I listened to the track. The track as a whole carries emotional weight you don’t often find in metal. It’s especially impressive considering the many thrash metal elements in this song.
13. “Wolf“
“Wolf” is hands-down the coolest drumming performance in ICED EARTH’s career, maybe in metal history. The lyrics focus on the Wolfman and his troubled existence but the drums and guitars steal the show here. The section from 2:53-3:21 might be the most metal thing I’ve ever heard. Thank you Richard Christy!
12. “Desert Rain“
“Desert Rain” captures a JUDAS PRIEST vibe and is one of ICED EARTH’s most diverse tracks. The song, like many others, has been reworked and re-released with Matt Barlow on vocals, but I prefer the original version with John Greely on vocals (posted above).
11. “Violate“
ICED EARTH’s heaviest song is about The Violator from the Spawn comics. Enough said.
