10 Metal Bands that Broke Up too Soon

CARNAGE

Originally Active: 1988-1991

Number of Albums: 1

BIO:

CARNAGE was a short-lived extreme metal band from Sweden, who is better known for the bands that formed after they dissolved (DISMEMBER, ARCH ENEMY, CARCASS). Founded at the end of 1988 by Michael Amott and Johan Liiva, the band was plagued with lineup changes from the get go. By the time they recorded their debut album in 1990, Michael Amott was the sole remaining founding member. In fact, the band had already broken up by the time the album was released.

The group’s only album, “Dark Recollections”, has grown into a cult classic death metal album. While the songwriting is primitive and underdeveloped, there are flashes of intricate arrangements and variety within the unbridled fury. It’s unfortunate we did not get a chance to see the band grow and evolve, but several other bands were able to benefit from CARNAGE’s brief existence.  Michael Amott and Johan Liiva went onto form ARCH ENEMY while other former CARNAGE members moved on to found DISMEMBER – considered the pioneers of Swedish Death Metal.
