10 Metal Bands that Broke Up too Soon

SKRAPE

Originally Active: 1997-2004

Number of Albums: 2

BIO:

SKRAPE formed in Orlando, Florida in 1997 and quickly built a sizeable following around the local area. The Alt/Nu Metal outfit signed with RCA Records in 1999 after shopping around a 7-song demo to several labels. This led to their debut album “New Killer America” (2001). The album peaked at #157 on the Billboard 200 and the band was praised for their “bright and intelligent approach to hard rock”. Later on, the track “Waste” was listed on Spin magazines greatest Nu Metal songs of all time.

The band’s early successes earned them the opportunity to tour with bands such as PANTERA and SLAYER, but issues with their label began to emerge. The group’s second album, “Up the Dose” was shaped by label interference and was eventually released with little support from the label (who had been taken over by J Records at this point). SKRAPE was soon dropped from the label altogether and led to the band’s unofficial break-up – they have not performed since 2005.
