10 Metal Bands that Broke Up too Soon

DAMAGEPLAN

Originally Active: 2003-2004

Number of Albums: 1

BIO:

The metal world had high expectations for DAMAGEPLAN when it was formed in 2003. Created by Dimebag Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott after PANTERA disbanded, their anticipated album “New Found Power” was released in 2004 and debuted at #38 on the Billboard 200.

While promoting the album at a concert in December 8, 2004, a fan climbed on stage and killed Dimebag Darrell and three others before being fatally shot by police. In the aftermath of the shocking and horrifying incident, the rest of the group disbanded.

Dimebag’s premature death (he was only 38 years old) meant the metal community lost one of the greatest guitar players in history at his peak. While DAMAGEPLAN had not recaptured the success of PANTERA in their short existence, there is no doubt that Dimebag had much more to offer. Unfortunately, we will never know exactly what we’ve missed out on.
