10 Metal Bands that Broke Up too Soon

HEAVEN AND HELL

Originally Active: 2006-2010

Number of Albums: 1

BIO:

HEAVEN AND HELL formed as a collaboration between founding BLACK SABBATH members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler as well as DIO members Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice. This super-group released the studio album “The Devil You Know” in April 2009, which went on to win the Golden God’s Award for Best Album. The group set out on a four-month tour in May of that year – which included stops at Hellfest in France, Wacken Open Air in Germany, and the Sonisphere Festival in the UK – and ended on August 29th in Atlantic City (USA).

Unfortunately, in November 2009, Ronnie James Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer and HEAVEN AND HELL halted activities. Despite an initially favorable prognosis, Dio passed away on May 16, 2010 and the group was dissolved. With a strong debut album under their belt, fans were excited to see what was next from this legendary lineup. Appropriately, the band did not continue on after Dio’s death, but we will always wonder what music was never created because of it.
